Table Tennis Plans Have Been Upset
(New Zealand Press Association’
WELLINGTON.
New Zealand table tennis tour plans and commitments have been upset by the withdrawal of the proposed world championships which were to have been held in Australia next year, the secretary, Mr K. C. Wilkinson, said at yesterday’s annual meeting of the national association.
“An English team intended to tour this country after the championships but this has now been cancelled,” he said.
Fifty delegates represented 23 associations at the meeting in Wellington. Wanganui was chosen as next year’s venue for the national championships. Wairarapa was selected to hold the
1967 North Island championships and Southland, the sole applicant, will run the South Island championships. The grading system introduced into the game last year will continue as a permanent feature at future New Zealand championships.
Mr A. B. McCallum, of Canterbury, was elected president of the association, and Mr Wilkinson, of Wellington, was elected secretary for the eighteenth time.
