WELLINGTON, April 22.
Unilever (New Zealand) Ltd. will take over the production and sale of all Fropax frozen food and Frosty Jack ice-cream products in New Zealand.
In a joint statement today, the chairman of the two companies, Unilever and Fropax (New Zealand), Ltd., said the assets involved included the
two ice-cream factories at Papatoetoe and Palmerston North, the two frozen food factories at Hastings and Papanui and part of the distribution fleet and cold storage depots.
The purchase will become effective on April 30, after which Birds Eye Foods (New Zealand), Ltd., a Unilever subsidiary, will undertake the production and sale of all Fropax and Frosty Jack products.
Early last year, Frozen Products, Ltd., of Wellington, manufacturers of Frosty Jack ice-cream and distributors of Fropax frozen foods, was acquired by the Christchurchbased private company, Fropax (New Zealand), Ltd., an associate of the giant Vestey group of London, one of the world’s major packers of meat and food products.
