£53,190 Refused For Farm
“Richmond Downs,” Mr Ron A. Croft’s fattening property of 788 acres at Amberley, was passed in at £53,190 at public auction yesterday. The sale was held by the National Morgtage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Ltd. The auctioneer was Mr N. Aitken.
The property has been in the Croft family since 1920, and been farmed by the present owner since 1938. In 1949, Mr Croft became one of the first farmers in Canterbury to topdress from the air. “Richmond Downs” was selected in 1955 from among the top fat-lamb properties in New Zealand for publicity pur-
poses, and for educational instruction throughout the Commonwealth. The land, subdivided into 26 paddocks, includes 600 acres of ploughable downs and spurs, broken by steep-sided, clean gullies.
The weatherboard homestead is of three bedrooms, lounge, sitting-room, kitchen, and two storerooms.
Other improvements include a modern three-bed-roomed brick bungalow, implement shed and granary, two haybarns, two-stand woolshed, three garages, header shed, man’s whare, killing house, dairy and cowshed, fowlhouses. and covered bulk manure bin.
