Wendy Dawn Looks Ready For Final

Although her time was not fast, Wendy Dawn showed her fitness for the Royal Easter Cup Final tomorrow when she worked at Addington Raceway yesterday morning Wendy Dawn was a rather unlucky second to Lordship in her two-mile heat a fortnight ago, and if she receives a reasonable run in the £5lOO final, she could make Robin Dundee work hard for another win.

Most of the work was done abo'.t 12 feet out on the track, the going being fast. Wendy Dawn strode over 12 furlongs the reverse way in about 3min 30sec, the pace being even throughout. Then she ran over the same distance in 3min 24 2-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 6 4-5 sec. She fought for her head after being restrained to take 32 l-ssec for the final quarter. The Johnny Globe mare looks a picture, and it will be surprising if she fails to race prominently. Bobbinet paced easily alongside Swartz Pete, Lonesome Valley and Great Adiios at the end of 12 furlongs in 3min 21sec, the last half-mile in Imin Isec. and the final quarter in 30s’ec. Great Adios gave Swartz Pete a start of more than two seconds, and was timed to better one minute for his final half-mile, the last quarter in 29sec. Bobbinet looks well for her big test in the £5lOO final. She is certain to run on more strongly than most in the race.

and a driver for Garry Dillon probably would be made after the arrival of his partowner, Mr J. H. Shaw, from Invercargill today.
