‘Community Work A Challenge’
National Council of Women delegates should always remem* her that they were citizens, and should not, therefore, be solely concerned with seeing the woman’s point of view put forward, Mrs C. J. Ashley, president of the Christchurch branch, told the monthly meeting last evening.
Most delegates were not backward in censoring members of Parliament whom they considered were not faithfully serving the people they represented. But while doing this, they should also work for the whole of the community. Mrs Ashley commended the presidential address given by Mrs Doreen Grant at the executive meeting in Wellington.
“It was an excellent address, thought provoking and challenging to us all,” Mrs Ashley said. “The strength of the N.C.W. is that we represent such a wide cross-section of the
women of New Zealand. This is a very real challenge to every delegate.” It had been said that a nation was aS strong, as moral, and as concerned as its homes. Every aspect of the family was the council’s concern. “We must make ourselves well informed on moral, social and spiritual ideals that weld the family into a unit which can stand the stresses and strains it faces in this day and age. “This is our privilege and our task, so let us see that we do everything in our power to strengthen and support
those who are working to preserve the family life of this wonderful country,” Mrs Ashley said.
