Sale Of Adult Cattle Chatham Islands cattle were the mainstay of the market when the first of the Thur' dav sales of adult cattle was held at the Addington saleyards yesterday. The yard'.ng totalled 43>. compared with 289 last Wednesday. It was made up of about 190* steers from the Chathams. 100 breeding cows, and young cattle and a few’ calves. Only a small gaF.ery of buyers followed the sale, but it was regarded as firin on recent values. The Chathams cattle attracted strong interest, the best selling from £42 18s 6d to £4B 8s 6(1. and the smallest down to £33 18s fid. The best in good, forward condition. The best of the yearling and ISmonth-old steers sold to £33 ISs fid. prices generally ranging from £2B 3s fid to £3O 18s fid. Cattle of this age range were not forward in large numbers, and most of those offered were small lots. Cows drew a steady inquiry, although most of them were in hard condition. Herefords sold to £36 13s fid for a pen from Culverden, and Aberdeen Angus cows sold to £39 IBs 6d. With the exception of 22 young cows from the Chathams, all the beef bred cows had been mated. Some quotable lines included Barker Brothers (Kaingaroa Station. Chatham Island). 44 Aberdeen Angus tw’o and a half-year-old steers at £36 8s fid to £42 ISs 6d. 22 young cows at £27 18s 6d to £3l 13s 6d: I* Lanauze < Chatham Island). 34 adult Aberdeen Angus steers at £42 3s 6d to £46 3s 6d: Chudleigh Estate (Chatham Island). IDS adult Aberdeen Angus, Shorthorn and crossbred steers at £3l IBs 6d to £4B 8s 6d); A. D. and A. C. Manson (Jacksons), 12 yearling Aberdeen Angus steers at £3O IBs 6d: J. A. Calder (Culverdeen). 13 mated Hereford cows at £23 18s 6d to £3fi 13s 6d: Gibraltar Farm (Tai Tapu), 6 mated Aberdeen Angus cows at £39 IBs fid: Pukl Puki S.G.R . Ltd. (Kaikoura). 22 Aberdeen Angus heifer calves at £l5 8s 6d to £l7 Ss fid.
