Market Reaction To Company Statements
Market reaction to recent company announcements was a feature yesterday in moderate trading on a steady market. Key stocks in both lists showed a slight improvement. News of higher dividends pushed up Christchurch Gas 6d to 19s 3d and New Zealand Breweries 2d to 13s 9d—both high points for the year. Golden Bay rose 3d to 16s 6d, a peak for the year, in first sales since the bonus issue announcement. Reflecting the firmer trend on Australian markets, G. J. Coles advanced 3d to 10s lid after news of a one-for-five premium issue to finance the greatest expansion programme in the company’s history.
