Third Time Unlucky
(N.Z.P. A. -Reuter —Copyright) BOURNEMOUTH. The New Zealand Davis Cup captain, L. A. Gerrard, won two matches, then lost the third, to be eliminated from the British hardcourt men’s singles tennis championships yesterday. Gerrard beat H. Fauquier (Canada), 5-7, 6-0, 6-2, having lost the first set on the previous day before bad light halted play. He had an easy second round win over R. W. Dixon (Britain), 6-2, 6-1, but was beaten, 9-7, 5-7, 6-1, by G. Stilwell (Britain) in the third round. Other New Zealanders were also unsuccessful. J. R. McDonald was beaten, 4-6, 6-1, 64, by J. Cottrill (Australia), and the young doubles pair, O. Parun and K. Woolcott, lost 3-6, 1-6, to J. Brown and F. Bautista (Thailand).
