Decorations Herald Visit
Touches of decoration have appeared in the centre of Christchurch to herald the Queen Mother's arrival tomorrow.
Baskets of filmy greenery hang beneath shop verandas along both sides of Cashel street, from High street to the Bridge of Remembrance, and along Colombo street. Coloured lights at night will fringe Cathedral square, where flags will be flying tomorrow morning to mark Her Majesty's arrival in the city. Decorative displays inside the bigger city stores are little in evidence, although one is featuring “Fashions for a Royal occasion.” The same store has an interesting window display of a replica of the Crown Jewels, the set used by Queen Elizabeth at the rehearsals for her Coronation in 1953.
Autumn colours will pro- 1 vide the best decoration at i “The Limes” site bordering Victoria square, for the public welcome to Her Majesty. ■ The special, roofed, dais constructed is framed by grace- i ful lime trees, and looks on to the trees of the Avon river bank, near the Victoria street I
bridge, and across Victoria street to the floral clock. The dais will be decorated with greenery and pot plants supplied by the City Council's reserves department, and further brightened with gay bunting and flags. All public buildings will fly flags on Saturday.
