Salisbury Tobacco Sales Increase

(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright) SALISBURY, April 21. The Rhodesian Tobacco Marketing Board ■told farmers yesterday that they could step ■up their weekly deliveries for 'sale in the ■Salisbury auctions by 25 per cent.

■The quota increase created ■siderable speculation in ■lisbury on whether this inHated Rhodesia was manag- ■; to sell its 1966 tobacco ■>p. in spite of sanctions by ■itain and boycotts by other ■untries.

It was considered, however, that the increase may also be the result of slow delivery of tobacco to the Salisbury auction floors due to drought and a late crop. No official comment on the announcement could be obtained tonight. The tobacco auctions—normally a popular tourist attraction—are taking place in strict secrecy under regulations designed to conceal the identities of buyers willing to speculate on purchases, in spite of British Government sanctions which make it illegal to export this year’s crop.
