Chance For Hardy Sail Away Tomorrow

Sail Away and Careen should be a formidable combination in the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at Riccarton tomorrow.

Sail Away thrives on racing, and his solid run for second behind Royal Estate in the George Adams Handicap yesterday appears to give him a second-to-none chance in the first leg, the Dominion Handicap.

Strongest opposition for Sail Away should come from Cassarook, Early Dawn and Birthright, all newcomers at the meeting; and perhaps Warfare and Baal Hanan.

Cassarook was unbeaten in two starts at the New Zealand Cup meeting and has since won the Invercargill Gold Cup besides being placed behind Court Belle over a mile and a half at Trentham.

Early Dawn was a last-start winner at Rangiora, and Birthright won at Ashburton earlier that week. Warfare failed against the sprinters yesterday, but the last time she was tried at a middle distance she was an unlucky second at Gore. Baal Hanan has won at Wingatui since his last visit to Riccarton in February, when he was placed.

Careen’s sixth in the Great Easter Handicap, was the performance of an early winner, and she will get her chance in the Templeton Handicap tomorrow. She was forced to come wide in a big run from the tail of the field. Shakes and Hushaway shou'd be Riccarton's best in this field and So Lovely rates a chance on her second behind Manana at Rangiora two starts back. She was eighth in the Great Easter Handicap yesterday Selections:—
