EASTER ROAD TOLL SEVEN

Two more road deaths yesterday brought the Easter road toll to seven.

In Christchurch a car ran out of control and overturned. A youth who was a passenger later died in hospital.

A motor-cyclist was killed when his machine failed to take a corner near Te Aroha.

The youth who died in Christchurch was injured when a car rolled over twice at the corner of New Brighton road, Cresswell avenue and Horseshoe Lake road, near Windsor House, about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was:

Joseph Singh, aged 20, a university student, of Rochester Hall, 15 Bealey avenue, Christchurch. His parents live in Fiji.

He died soon after admission to Christchurch Hospital. Mr Singh was thrown out of the car after it failed to take the bend. The vehicle was badly damaged and the two front doors were almost torn off.

Another passenger in the car. lan Lawrence, also of Rochester Hall, was admitted to Christchurch Hospital suffering from multiple injuries. The car was driven by Gerard van Maanen, aged 20, of Rochester Hall. Members of the motor accident inquiry branch at the Central police station wish to interview persons who saw the accident. The youth killed when his motor-cycle failed to take a bend on State highway 26 at Mangaiti, two miles north of Te Aroha was

John Kerapa Urata. aged 18, of Mangaiti.

His brother, David Urata, aged 16. who was riding on

the pillion, suffered multiple fractures to his arm and was admitted to Waikato Hospital. His condition is serious. Motorists were still travelling too fast and following too closely, a Transport Department officer said in Wellington last night. There had been a number of instances of cars unable to stop in time running into the vehicle in front. Slow drivers were also holding up traffic by failing to keep to the left, and there had been many cases of dangerous overtaking.
