Fewer Days Lost In 1965

There were 97 direct strikes last year compared with 89 in 1964, according to the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker) in the latest Abstract of Statistics, but only 21,814 working days were lost compared with 66,834 the pevious year. The loss in wages amounted to £92,020 and 15,267 workers were involved, while in 1964, 34,779 workers lost wages amounting to £256,536.

Fewer firms were affected by the stoppages. Last year there were 218; in 1964, 230 were involved. Each strike lasted for an average of 2.73 days last year, while in 1964 the average duration was 3.58 days.
