Armstrong Wins Easter Table Tennis Title

J. Armstrong did not concede a single game in any of his matches when he won the Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s Easter tournament men’s singles title yesterday.

In a match of long rallies and fine retrievings, he defeated J. Taylor (Marlborough), 21-8, 21-17, 21-13. The score gives little indication of the closeness of the contest.

Some excellent table tennis was played in the tournament, with H. P. Holt driving particularly well until put out by the more consistent Armstrong in the semi-finals.

The combination of Armstrong and Taylor was far too i strong for Holt and M. A. Cox I in the men’s doubles, winning i in straight games. I However, the mixed doubles j final produced a five-game I marathon before Cox and Mrs T. May could win. Mrs May had a successful tournament, winning the women’s singles and doubles titles as well as the mixed. However Mrs M. J. Shadbolt twice took' her to the advantage point in the singles.
