TROTTING STAKES

I Young Morris Easily ! Young Morris proved a class 'above his rivals in the New I Zealand Trotting Stakes which i drew a rather disappointing field of six. He was very confidently driven by his i Papanui owner-trainer, T. A. Moore. Supporters of the favourite were not hopeful of I success when Highland Fortress went away to a lead of five lengths just inside the two furlongs. Young Morris soon gathered in Highland Fortress and continued to win with much in hand by two lengths and a half. Highland Fortress, after forcing all of the pace, held on for second, six lengths in front of Coronet Peak, which shaped encouragingly. Briganelli, which broke near the straight entrance, was 50 yards away fourth, well clear of Doctor Scott and Fair Play, both of which made mistakes. The winner is a gelding by Morris Eden from Starmiss. Points In Heats Thirteen horses gained points in the qualifying heats and as a result are certain of a place in the £5OOO final of the Royal Easter Cup, to be run over 13 furlongs on April 23. Whether the club will invite another three horses to compete to bring the field to a maximum of 16 is not known, but this should not be necessary. Twelve horses gained points among the trotters and probably will comprise the field for the £2OOO final over two miles. Pacers
