More Efficency Sought (N.Z. Press Association! HAMILTON, April 10. Efforts will have to be made to properly exploit New Zealand’s “partly used, ill staffed and inefficiently operated" computer machines, the Auditor-General (Mr B. D. A. Greig) said in Hamilton. At present the value of computers is scarcely recognised, he said. “But, we will have to enter into the computer age quicker than we would like to, and the sooner this is realised by the public, the better.” He advocated that local bodies, during the next round of replacement of office equipment, install computers to take over much of the work previously done by staff. This, he said, would greatly alleviate the shortage of clerical staff through New Zealand, and improve administration.
