GO-KART RACING

Championships In Progress The first two days of the New Zealand go-kart championships were held on the 500-yard Carr’s road circuit at Halsweil during the weekend. The championships will end today. About 1500 persons watched the racing on Saturday, and yesterday the crowd was estimated at nearly 2500. An even larger crowd is expected today. It is the first time the championships have been held in Christchurch, and 16 classes are being contested by about 70 entrants in a series of nearly 100 eight-lap heats. The main event yesterday was the 100 c.c. super class championship series, which comprised six elimination heats and six finals. But other classes were also strongly contested, and the faster karts were approaching 70 miles an hour on the 100-yard main straight. Today, racing will start at 12.30 p.m. and-will comprise the New Zealand 100 c.c. women's class, the New Zealand women’s open class, and the open A class (0 to 150 c.c.) and open B class (151 c.c. to 250 c.c.). These two latter classes will be run over six heats each, and the 10 best karts will compete in six finals for the champion ol champions award.
