NORTHERN STAYERS FIT FOR MONDAY

Bandon and Sail Away have arrived at Riccarton from the North Island looking fit for the George Adams Handicap at Riccarton on Monday. But it has not been all plain sailing for Rag Doll in her preparation for the Champagne Stakes for which she is one of the early favourites.

Rag Doll has been ' sore for a few days, and it is thought the trouble may be in a stifle. Rag Doll arrived at Riccarton from the North Island on Thursday, in company with Sail Away and Bandon. Sail Away has had a strenuous season, but he looked bright when he did striding work on the plough at Riccarton yesterday. - W. D. Skelton will ride Sail Away in the £3600 race on Monday. Others to impress with their looks while doing light exercise at Riccarton yesterday were the southern stayers. Red Siren and Royal Estate. Royal Estate is one of a team of six brought from Wingatui by A. N. Didham. Wind Operation Didham brought last year’s Great Easter Handicap winner, Modern Imp, north, but not to race at the meeting. Modern Imp has been scratched from that race on Monday and will be operated on soon to clear his wind. Standout may have tn miss a start in the George Adams

Handicap for want of a suitable light-weight rider. He was a double acceptor and has been scratched from the Opawa Handicap, but his stablemate, Hushaway, will run in that race. Sprint Test Solicitor has dropped out of the Opawa Handicap and will run in the Great Easter Handicap, but no rider had been engaged for him yesterday. The Clinton-owned and trained Solicitor has done best on firm tracks, and for that reason has part-owner, Mr H. G. C. McLachlan, decided to miss the Riverton meeting this year. Solicitor galloped his way into consideration for the Great Easter on Thursday morning when he reeled off half a mile on the trial grass in 47 3-ssec. E. G. Low rode him, and may be the race rider, too, if Mr McLachlan is unable to secure a suitable rider for the weight of 7-6. Low would have to ride at a few pounds overweight. Other gallops by horses engaged in maior races on Monday included: — Mile.—Standout (Collins) imin 45 l-ssec, last half. 49 3-ssec; Hushaway and Time
