DATA FROM LUNA X
Analysis By Scientists (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, April 6. Russian scientists yesterday processed data sent back to earth by the world’s first Luna satellite. The 5301 b Luna X, launched on Thursday, is relaying valuable information that will help scientists plan a manned flight as it circles the moon once every 2hr 58min and 15sec. Its main task appears to be to study the lunar space and to search for the source of lunar radiation detected by Lunar IX, the Soviet capsule that made a soft landing on the moon in February. Subsidiary programmes include studying the moon’s magnetic field, its gravity and temperature variations as well as the presence of dust clouds and meteorites.
