Wright Stephenson Buys Liquor Firm
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 8 Wright Stephenson and Company Ltd has acquired all the shares in W. Scoular and Company Ltd, a Dunedin general and liquor merchant, Mr R. Wilson, managing director of Scoular’s, said yesterday.
He said shareholders in Scoular’s had exchanged their shares for Wright Stephenson shares. Wright Stephenson did not intend to
alter the character of Scoular’s business in any way. The company would continue to trade under its own name. Scoular’s is a private company, which has been run in Dunedin for 104 years. Acquiring Scoular’s and its wholesale liquor licence brings Wright Stephenson into line with both the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Ltd., and Dalgety-New Zealand Loan, Ltd., which already have wholesale liquor licences in the South Island. The latest move is the third change in ownership in the wholesale liquor trade in Dunedin in recent years. Wholesalers, Ltd., was taken over by F. Meenan and Company, Ltd., and Milne Bremner and Company, Ltd., was bought out by a group of Dunedin merchants.
