AGED AND INFIRM

Seats At Royal Function

Special seating for the elderly and for the infirm will be provided by the City Council on the morning of the civic welcome to the Queen Mother on Saturday, April 23 Tickets will be issued by the council.

Three hundred seats will be set aside in Victoria square, where the welcome will be held, and there will be another enclosure of seating on Oxford terrace (between Worcester and Hereford streets near the Public Trust Office building) chiefly for the infirm.

It is probable that cars will be stopped at the Colombo street-Cambridge terrace intersection and the elderly will be set down there and walk a short distance to their seats in the square near a dais opposite the town hall car park. Those more infirm should apply for seats in Oxford terrace, where they can be set down at their places. The Queen Mother will drive slowly by.

Those going to Victoria square are asked to be seated by 10.45 a.m. and those in Oxford terrace by 11.30 a.m. Announcing these arrangements, the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) said he knew that many in these groups were keen to see the Queen Mother, so these special provisions had been made.

A City Council official said these special tickets need not be collected in person. They would be available from Wednesday when the City Council offices reopen after the Easter break.
