usually subdivided into three units, or compounds of three units, so that the jerky rhythms of dotted eighth or 16th-notes may be played in an easier, more “swinging” style. Because of this, and because blues melody has polyrhythmic implications, the solo instrument (or voice) and the rhythmic accompaniment may be combined to give almost unlimited rhythmic diversity. But you have to listen for it.
