TROTTING DISBAND INJURED IN TRAINING

Start On Saturday Not Certain

Disband injured herself when she fell in training on Tuesday morning and a start for her in the third heat of the Royal Easter Cup on Saturday is in doubt. This race will be the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting.

Disband took some skin off her 1 chest and was very tender after the i fall. There is still time for her to recover from the effects of the fall and it is to be hoped that she can start.

She needs a placing , to ensure herself a ; start in the £5OOO < final on April 23. * Disband failed to earn any -qualifying points in her heat .last Saturday, and D, G. Jones will no doubt be hoping that her fifth will earn her a start .if she has to miss Saturday’s • race. Last week Disband showed

amazing speed to come from nearly last at the straight entrance to finish fifth less than three lengths behind Robin Dundee. She was a shade slow early in that race and was checked near the three furlongs when starting to improve. In the circumstances she did well to finish so close. Disband started from 12 yards last week, while Robin Dundee started from 36 yards. This week she meets Robin Dundee on 24 yards more favourable terms over an extra six furlongs. Disband is a -splendid stayer anc. if she has made the progress expected since her race last Saturday, which was her first since January 3, she should go close to winning. Robin Dundee is in such superlative form at present that she might not find it impossible to give Disband a start of 48 yards and a beating; but to do that she will need a lot in her favour. No doubt there will be solid support once more for Robin Dundee, and on the day she eould be the actual favourite for the event. Cloudy Bay, a solid finisher for second to Lordship last week, will appreciate the longer distance in this race and he should again take .part in the finish. I Mister Chips, Swartz Pete, 'Jacobite and Junior Royal iare others expected to show ito advantage in their quest for points. Second Leg | Doctor Barry was having his first start since November when he finished fourth in the sprint won by Lordship last week. He is expected to

improve sufficiently to win the fourth heat, especially as he has shown such fine staying form in the past. He attempted to slip the field racing to the straight last week, but was run down inside the final furlong. At the finish he was three lengths from Lordship, which he will meet on 12 yards more favourable terms this time. Wendy Dawn impressed when she finished at a great rate for third behind Lordship and Cloudy Bay last week. She, too, is not noted for sprinting prowess, and the extra distance is certain to suit her. In addition she was most impressive when worked at Addington Raceway on Tuesday. Lordship was most impressive when he won last week even though he had the advantage of a moving start Mrs D. G. Nyhan’s seven-year-old had an interrupted preparation for last week’s race and he could be improved. The distance will not worry this brilliant son of Johnny Globe. Golden Oriole was rather disappointing last week, but it will not surprise if she does better this time. She is too good to leave out of calculations. Bobbinet, which has chased Robin Dundee home at her last three starts, is recognised more as a stayer than a sprinter. She appears to have thrived on recent racing and she should again have fine prospects. Great Adios could prove a worthy second string for Auckland stables in spite of last week’s failure. He might do better if kept off the rails. Lonesome Valley and Space Cadet appeal most of the remainder. The on-course double will be run on the third and fourth heats of the New Zealand Trotting Championship.
