Invercargill Wool Generally Steady

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 6 Compared with the recent Timaru sale the market for fleece wool at the sixth main Invercargill sale of the season was quoted as generally unchanged, with lambs’ wool slightly easier and oddments inclined in buyers’ favour.

The selection offered consisted of ewe wool, oddments, about 15 per cent of lambsw 00l and a small quantity of second shear, says the official report on the sale issued by the Invercargill Woolbrokers' Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission. As was the case with the March sale, the offering showed the effect of adverse growing conditions resulting in extreme tenderness of staple and cotted fleece. The colour of the offering was not up to the standard of the last Invercargill sale, a higher degree of discolouration being apparent in all types. Continental buyers brought the bulk of the wool with limited support from the United States, Bradford and Japan. The offering was of 24,195 bales. Prompt date is April 27.
