Points For Table Tennis Unchanged

The points system for the Canterbury Table Tennis Association’s competitions will not be altered during the 1965-66 winter and summer seasons.

This was decided at the annual meeting of the association last evening. Avonside’s proposal that points be allotted for games won or lost rather than two points for a match win, one for a tie and none for a loss, was defeated. ‘This will give recognition to close contests,” said Mr J. Harris (Avonside). “It will just about finish any chance of a tie in the competition points. Every Game Vital “It will also do away with defaulted matches if it is worth points to the defaulting team. It will make every game important.” ‘The association has discussed this matter and considers it would involve a tremendous amount of work in recording the results,” said Mr A. B. McCallum, president of the association. “We do not consider the necessary scrutinising is justified for the amount of work it would involve. And a team which won every match could still lose the over-all competition on points.” Mr I. Urqhart said the motion would increase interest. “I would like to see it tried next summer.” Building Fund.—Mr M. C. Cox, the treasurer, raid the building fund had reached £BO7 Ss 6d

"If we can maintain this Increase we should have £lOOO by the end of the year, and we may be able to improve facilities for the players," he said "We hope to hire another hall and so reduce the number of buildings In which the winter competitions are held." Suspect Serves.—" There are too many players using suspect serves in the competition. ' said Mr M. L. Tonkin. "There should be some supervision ' ‘1 thoroughly agree, said Mr McCallum. “The Incoming ex ecutive will appoint personnel to supervise this.” Transfer.—A motion from Avonside that there should be an official transfer from one club to another was lost.
