FISHERIES TRAINING
I Reply To S.I. Criticism (N t Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 5. Criticism that the proposed Government - sponsored fish-
eries training scheme ignored the needs of the South Island were answered today by the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott). “Plans are now firmly established for training courses to be held in seamanship and navigation at Wellington. Auckland. Christchurch, Dunedin and Timaru,” he said. Mr J. J. Kenton, president of the Federation of Commercial Fishermen, recently claimed that the scheme ■ ignored the needs of the South Island and Mr G. B. Heywood, secretary of the Southland Fishermens’ Association, said the scheme should include schools at Dunedin and Invercargill. The Minister said other locations considered for training courses were Gisborne, Bluff, Napier and Tauranga.
