LOADING SHIPS
Plinisoll Mark To Be Raised (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, April 5. Sixty maritime nations meeting in London yesterday agreed to raise the Plimsoll mark load line for large new tankers, carriers, and bulk carriers. The load line for vessels of more than 328 feet to be built in future will be raised by between 10 and 20 per cent In a 100.000 ton tanker, this would allow it to increase cargo weight by 10.000 tons. Existing ships which comply with certain safety regulations will also be allowed the increased tonnage. Dry cargo ships fitted with water-tight hatch covers are also to be alowed to load 10 per cent deeper in thte water.
