TEACHING MUSIC
Major Survey Planned (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 5. The Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council and the New Zealand Council for Educational Research will sponsor jointly a survey of music teaching in New Zealand. The survey, which will cover music teaching in all its aspects, will be directed by Dr. M. J. Tait, principal lecturer in music at the Hamilton Teachers’ College. This was announced today by the chairman of the Arts Council, Mr G. G. Gibbes Watson. “This will be the first major survey of music teaching undertaken in this country and the findings arising from it will serve as a valuable guide to the future development of both professional and amateur music making,” said Mr Watson. The survey will be divided into phases extending over a period of two years. “The first phase, the collecting of written submissions from interested persons and organisations will begin shortly.”
