Bomb Still In Sight
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter —Copyright) WASHINGTON, April 5. A Defence Department spokesman said yesterday that as far as was known, the United States Navy could still see the hydrogen bomb reported sunk in deep mud 2500 ft in the Mediterranean off south-east Spain. He was commenting on reports that the bomb, which fell into the sea off Palomares after a mid-air collision in January between a United States Air Force bomber and a tanker aircraft, had disappeared after a hoisting cable broke. Asked to explain the delay in bringing the bomb to the surface, the spokesman said: ‘“This is a delicate operation in deep water.”
