Machine-guns Handed In During Amnesty
<NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 5. Two Rasing machine-guns •nd a Schmeisser machinepistol were among the 11 machine-guns handed in to police stations throughout New Zealand in the first month of the two-month arms amnesty. The Reisings are similar to the weapon used in the Auckland Bassett road murders The Schmeisser machine pistol was issued to German troops during the Second World War. One Reismg and the Schmeisser were handed in in Hamilton. The other Reising
was handed in at Auckland. Two Maxims, three Spandaus, two light Japanese weapons and a heavy, watercooled Japanese weapon were also handed in. In March 1011 weapons were surrendered. They included 296 pistols and 705 rifles. Hamilton headed the list with 182 weapons and Wellington and Auckland received 130 each. Other police district totals! were- Christchurch 93, Nelson 79. Palmerston North 69. Napier 65, Timaru 54. Invercargill 48, Dunedin 36, Wanganui 26. Whangarei 15. Greymouth 9, New Plytnouth 8
