N.I. Buyers Active At Marlborough Calf Sale

(New Zealand Press Association)

BLENHEIM, April 5. | After yesterday's succesful first Marlborough calf sale of i the season, nearly 280 head | were flown to Wellington to-! day for Wairarapa and lower Manawatu. Although North Island buyers were not as active at yesterday’s sale as at last year’s first sale, when they took more than 1200 head, the offering this year was not representative of the whole province. The demand for Marlborough young cattle and the .bigger offering, has caused the Stock Agents’ As- ■ sociation to split the pro-, vince into zones and sell the I offering from each at three! sales —all in April. Medium-type calves yesterday met with good demand! and advances £3. to £5 on j

values obtained last year. Topquality steer calves made £3O, and the tops of the heifers £22.

Car Fire.—A car parked outside 178 Montreal street was damaged by fire about 5 p.m. on Monday when a halfgallon tin of petrol fell across the battery terminals. The tyres were burned off and other minor damage caused to the vehicle. One engine from the Central Fire Station answered the call.
