Fair Song Is Strong Manawatu Prospect

“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Fair Song meets the first-night winner, Trapper, on better terms and should beat him in the Wanganui Handicap on the second night of the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting tonight.

Fair Song will be driven by P. T. Wolfenden, who won twice on the first night. All which ran in the Booth’s Handicap have accepted again, with Light Oak the only new runner.

When finishing third on Saturday, Fair Song ran on as well as the winner, Trapper, just over three lengths away. Trapper had received 12 yards from Fair Song. Tonight both will start from 24, and run an extra three furlongs and a half.

Trapper’s limit mark on the first night enabled him to keep close to the leaders, but Fair Song was slow away and the solid pace made him work all the harder.

Forward March will appreciate the extra distance. She broke on Saturday, which might have cost her a placing. It was her first start since Addington on February 12 and although off 36, she could make it hard for Fair Song.

Port Boxer was buried on the fence until too late on the first night and came on strongly for third, only a long neck and half a head away. From three on the limit over the 124 furlongs he will take some catching in the second leg, the Lightning Handicap. Camlin, which, like Port Boxer, was clear late on Saturday, could trouble Port Boxer the most. Final Shot, which ran on for fourth on Saturday night, and the southerner, Money Wise, could be the best of the others.
