Market Rumour Shakes Price Of U.E. Box
Market rumours yesterday that United Empire Box was to be the bidder for Ross and Glendining shook the price of the shares and marked them down 3d to Ils 9d in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland.
Ross and Glendining, after reaching an apparently high point of 12s in Auckland on Friday, closed Is down at 11s on all exchanges except Dunedin. Generally the market for New Zealand issues was steady with rises balancing falls. New Zealand Farmers’ Fertiliser sold 4s down at 42s 3d after sliding on quotation since news of the proposed one-for-four cash issue.
Overseas issues followed a slightly firmer trend. Christchurch sales of B.H.P. were 2s higher at 48s, Colonial Sugar Refining rose 9d to 25s 9d in Wellington, while G. J. Coles firmed 6d to 11s Id. Mount Lyell attracted interest on Christchurch exchange and closed 2d up at 12s Id.
