(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, April 3. Siting a sewage plant nextdoor to a new milk processing plant is thoroughly unacceptable, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) has told the Labour candidate for Raglan (Mr R. Little) in a telegram. Commenting on the “battle” now raging between the Hamilton City Council and the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., over the siting of Hamilton’s new sewage treatment plant, Mr Kirk has said the Government must prevent the present situation from proceeding further.
He said his party would approach the Government if it made no move to alter the present position. “I don’t think anyone can accept the idea of putting a sewage treatment plant next to a food-processing plant of this kind,” said Mr Kirk.
