Billiards Champion Is Reinstated
[By Our Billiards Reporter] The president of the Canterbury Snooker and Billiards Association Mr R. Milne has confirmed that K. Murphy has been reinstated as an amateur. This decision by the New Zealand council is most welcome. both from a Canterbury and a New Zealand viewpoint Murphy, at 28, has a great future at both snooker and billiards. Being fully aware that he was flouting the rules.
Murphy years ago purchased a billiard saloon and thus ended his amateur rating. At 20. this was a major decision for a man who had already won a national and several provincial titles. Three years without a competitive match against a top player could have left its mark on Murphy’s ability but with his natural ability and a season of interclub billiards he could again be to the fore in the August national championships at Oamaru.
