FIRE BOARD SEATS
Councils Want Change Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board representation for the outer local bodies had been discussed at a joint meeting of the Riccarton and Lyttelton Borough Councils, and the Waimairi, Paparua. and Heathcote County Councils, the clerk (Mr A. Kelly) told a meeting of the Paparua County Council last night The City Council had declined an invitation to attend, he said. The meeting had decided unanimously to ask the City Council voluntarily to relinquish one of its three seats for allocation to the outer councils, to give them two seats on the board. Failing the city’s agreement, the meeting decided to send a deputation to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Sea th) and make written submissions for amending legislation. The meeting had also agreed to ask the board to set its own uniform fire requirement standards, rather than have each council set its own under its by-laws.
