‘Crush Malaysia ’ Still Urged

President Sukarno is still insistent that his “crush Malaysia policy” go forward.
During the week-end Dr Sukarno, who has transferred executive authority in the republic to his army chief of staff, Lieutenant-General Suharto, met the “crush Malaysia command” at Bogor, 40 miles south of Djakarta. An official statement quoted the President as saying: “Confrontation against the British project of Malaysia should continue to be stepped up. "This is because confrontation is a manifestation of the message of the people’s suffering.” The official Antara news agency, however, also quoted the new Foreign Minister, Mr Adam Malik, who was at the meeting as saying the President at the same time held the door open for a peaceful settlement.
Colonel Sunarjo. spokesman for the crush Malaysia command. said the Government had two tasks: the first was to strengthen the Indonesian revolution in all sectors; the second to crush Malaysia. Achievement of the first aim would provide a sound basis for achievement of the second. In the last week the President has made several statements emphasising he still regards himself as holding the reins of power and that his policies, including the offensive against Malaysia and the holding of a congress of “new emerging forces,” will be continued. Mr Dahlan Ranuwihardjo of the Indonesian Youth Federation, said: “The leaders think that with luxury clothes and stars on their breasts they will be more respected by the people. Such a way of thinking is not in line with the people’s wishes.”
He called on the people not to use the word palace but called the building “the President’s house.” He also called for the abandonment of the title “Excellency.” He said that the Government had spent two hundred million rupiahs for the repairs of Ministers’ houses last year.
