Departure Of N.Z. Mission
The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association was represented by a very strong group in the New Zealand I Manufacturers’ Federation’s trade mission to South-east Asia, said the association’s president (Mr C. W. Mace) yesterday. The nine Canterbury representatives with the 20-man mission will leave Christchurch today for Auckland to join Air New Zealand’s inaugural flight to Singapore tomorrow.
The Canterbury members of the trade mission were yesterday bidden farewell by the association’s council at its monthly meeting. The leader of the mission is a former president of the federation, Mr R. H. Stewart, and the association’s secretary, Mr R. T. Alston is the secretary of the mission. Both are of Christchurch.
The president of the federation < Mr J. R. Maddren, of Christchurch) will travel on the inaugural flight, and remain with the mission for a week in Singapore. Mr Maddren said at yesterday’s meeting that it was essential to boost overseas exchange earnings to the maximum. He hoped the mission would return with full order books.
