Retirement Of Mr J. Giddens
Having driven freight trucks in Akaroa and Christdhuroh for move than 30 years, Mr J. J. A. (Audy) Giddens will retive from driving on Saturday at the age of 68. Mr Giddens started worktag at the age of 14 in 1012. He ran a stone crusher for the Akaroa County Council in the winter and worked in the Onawe cheese factory during the summer. Between 1929 and 1935 he was employed first at an Akaroa butter factory and later as a share milker.
After the depression Mr Giddens drove trucks for W. W. Reid and Company until 1940. As a freight truck driver for Cook’s Freight, ltd, he carted cream from bays around Akaroa to Christchurch and returned with supplies for local farms and stores. In 1955 he began driving for Bays Freights, Ltd.
