$1m. Pacer

The first 1,000,000-dol-lar purchase of a harness horse took place in the United States recently. A prominent breeder, Mr A. J. Leavitt, aged 29, paid that price for the trotter Noble Victory. Mr Leavitt said he headed a 16-person syndicate which planned to race the trotter for two years then retire him to the stud. Noble Victory has had 28 wins and won 311,695 dollars. The syndicate bought Noble Victory from Mr K. D. Owen, who remains a

member of the purchasing group.

The New York trainer. S. Dancer, bought the horse for Mr Owen for 35,000 dollars in 1963. The previous highest price recorded for a harness horse was more than 600,000 dollars for Adios Butler.

Noble Victory, which has a record of Imin 57 2-ssec, is by Victory Song (Imin 57 3-ssec) from Emily’s Pride (Imin 58), by Star’s Pride (Imin 57 l-ssec).
