His day-by-day record of his normal activities and duties contains lively accounts for some of the more exciting and unusual events he experienced'—hunting trips and picnics in New South Wales, vice-regal balls in Sydney and a bachelors’ party on Norfolk Island, pig-hunting in the Wairarapa. the first race meeting in New Zealand. The journal Is edited by Mrs Nancy M. Taylor, whose introduction provides a background against which Best’s comments fall into proper perspective.
