Bombay Mint Reproduces Rare Australian Coins

(N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) BOMBAY, March 30. The Master of the Indian Government Mint in Bombay, Mr V. J. Joshi, said yesterday that the mint was reproducing rare Australian coins for sale to world collectors. He said the sales were in accordance with international practice. His mint supplied to numismatic dealers specimens of coins which were minted in Bombay during the days of British rule and Indian coins minted since independence. The list of the types of coins minted there In the past with the price rates were supplied to coin dealers all over the world, said Mr Joshi.

As far as the Australian coinage was concerned, said Mr Joshi, the British Government in 1942 and 1943 utilised the services of the Bombay Mint to make penny and halfpenny pieces for Australia. The old dies for the coins were still with the mint which made and supplied a few samples occasionally in response to requests from dealers at the prices fixed some years ago.

The mint would be happy to hand over the work to the Australian Government and to return the dies if the Australian Government wanted to handle the orders, said Mr Joshi.
