Dr. Altus Dies In Adelaide
The founding minister of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Christchurch, Dr. R. H. Altus, of Adelaide, died recently. Dr. Altus, who revisited New Zealand in 1964, founded the congregation of St. Paul’s in 1922 and served there for two years before spending five years in Upper Moutere. He was president of the New Zealand Lutheran Church from 1926 to 1929. He returned to Australia in 1935 to become minister to the Tabor parish, Victoria. In 1935 he joined the staff of Concordia Lutheran College and Seminary, Adelaide, where he stayed until his death, except for a break of two years in 1946 and 1947, during which he was the founding principal of Concordia Lutheran College, Toowoomba, Queensland. Dr. Altus was 68.
