Napier Wool Firm On Auckland

(New Zealand Press Association* NAPIER, March 30. Compared with the recent Auckland wool sale, prices for fine crossbreds were inclined in sellers’ favour, with all other crossbreds and oddments firm on recent rates, at the sale in Napier today.

Lambs’ wool prices were barely maintained. The official report says the total offering of 26,741 bales of greasy wool was submitted to a fully representative bench of buyers. The offering comprised mainly ewe fleece, with a proportion of early shorn fleece, hogget fleece, lambs’ wool and the usual percentage of oddments.

Many back country clips are included in catalogues for this sale.

The clips, though better than at the recent March sales, were not quite up to the pre-

vious sales this season. Discoloration, cotts and seed were more apparent, with a certain amount of tender fleece, especially wools from outside the Hawke’s Bay district.

Competition was keen, with Continental interest prominent and with support from the JJnited States, Japan and Bradford. Local mills were interested in their own particular speciality types.
