Youth Concert During Queen Mother’s Visit

WELLINGTON, Mar. 30. New Zealand music and performers will feature in a Royal youth concert to be attended oy the Queen Mother in Wellington on April 26. Juan Mateucci, principal conductor of /the N.Z.B.C. Symphony Orchestra, will conduct a youth orchestra and choir especially assembled for the concert.
The orchestra will comprise of young players from the Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Symphonia, the Christchurch Civic Orchestra, the Dunedin Civic Orchestra, and the 1965 National Youth Orchestra. Choristers will be drawn from Nelson Giris’ College, Cashmere High School, Christchurch Giris’ High School, Wellington Girls’ College, New Plymouth Girls’ High
School, Spotswood College (New Plymouth), St. Mary’s College (Wellington), Hutt Valley High Schoo), and Tawa College (Wellington).
The orchestra and choir will present compositions by two New Zealanders: “Cambridge Suite,” by Jenny McLeod, and “A Blake Cantata,” by, Edwin Carr. Soloists in the “Maori Suite,” by Ashley Heenan, will be two young Auckland singers, Donna Awatere and Laureete Gibb. An Auckland violinist, Michael McLellan, will be featured in the second and third movements of the Violin Concerto in G Minor, Op. 26, by Bruch.
