LINCOLN H.S.

Retirement Of

Principal

Mr C. M. Harris, principal of the Lincoln High School, will retire today, ending his teaching career. He has held the position since 1959 when Lincoln District High School became a full high school. After graduating bachelor of arts at Canterbury Univer-

sity College, Mr Harris served as an assistant master at the Hawarden District High School and then transferred to the Reefton District High School where he became senior secondary assistant. As first assistant master of the Motueka District High School, Mr Harris was involved in its translation to full high school status and this experience was valuable when he became head at Lincoln. Since then Mr Harris has led development in the school and community. The school, serving a big district bounded by Hornby, Dunsandel, and Little River, has expanded considerably. Mr and Mrs Harris have also been active in Lincoln district organisations. Earlier Mr Harris played Rugby and cricket for the High School Old Boys’ Club in Christchurch and in 1929 represented Canterbury in the Plunket Shield cricket series.

A public farewell for Mr and Mrs Harris will be held at the school on April 6.
