COMBINED DEFENCE
Singapore Leaves (N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, March 30. Singapore has withdrawn from the Combined Defence Council and Combined Operations Committee of which it was a member with Malaysia, the Malaysian Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, announced today. He said Singapore gave no reasons for its withdrawal. The Tunku said that the Combined Defence Council would revert to its former name, National Defence Council, by which it was known before Singapore's separation from Malaysia last August. “We have to station our troops in Singapore and I am confident Singapore will still continue to give her cooperation in defence matters, although she has withdrawn from the Combined Defence Council,” the Tunku said.
