Tuatara Favourite Coin Design

AUCKLAND, March 27.
The coiled tuatara lizard design by Professor Paul Beadle, of the Elam School of Fine Arts, still tops the combined poll of preferences expressed by “New Zealand Herald” readers and people who voted at the Auckland Coin Club display in the city.
Late tonight a total of 385 votes were recorded for the 5c tuatara. The Berry 20c kiwi design was second, with 364.
After seesawing in popularity, Professor Beadle’s dolphin and trout design has started to creep ahead on the Shyrrock mask in the 10c field. Of the 50c designs, Professor Beadle’s chieftain gained a clear lead on the Endeavour design by Mr Berry. In the favouritism of various denominations the voting was:
1c: Berry fernleaf. 339: Beadle rifleman. 110: Gray Southern Cross, 31: Mayo daisies. 12.
2c: Berry kownai, 332: Beadle pohutukawa, 99; Fraser flax, 46.
