LIDO POOL RINK
Postponement Announced
Work has been deferred on the skating rink project at the Jellie Park Lido pool. This was announced during the Waimairi County Council’s inspection on Saturday by the chairman (Mr O. C. Mitchell), who said that the decision, taken in committee by the council at its meeting on March 17, was to enable the council to complete its review of spending on reserves. The council was told at this meeting that it was overcommitted on spending out of land subdivision funds and decided to consider the question when framing its estimates in May, The skating rink, which will be on the south-west comer of the pool area, will have a dual purpose. The pool heating plant can be reversed to freeze water on the skating rink surface. Without water the surface could be used for roller-skating.
Main reason for the hold-up in construction was the cost of the special piping which will be used in freezing the water. About 16,000 ft of this pipe is needed, and the cost without installation would he about £4OOO.
