80,000 Gaelic Speakers
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) EDINBURGH. A census has revealed that there are more than 80,000 Gaelic speakers in Scotland. They live mainly in Ross and Cromarty, and Invernessshire. The outer Hebrides, with one-third (26,840) of all Gaelic speakers, is by far the largest Gaelic-speaking community. Obstructed Footpath.— Douglas Stephen Gentleman, aged 21, a workman, was fined £5 by Messrs J. C. Cottrell and W. L. Grenfell, Justices of the Peace, in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday when he pleaded guilty to a charge of obstructing the footpath in Cathedral square on Friday night.
